What Mechanical Keyboards Are and How They’re Just Plain Better

What Are Mechanical Keyboards?

Mechanical keyboards are vastly different from regular, rubber membrane keyboards.

Unlike regular keyboards with rubber membrane switches, mechanical keyboards have spring-based switches.

What’s Good About Them?

There are a lot of perks of using a mechanical keyboard over a regular keyboard. Those keyboards are known for being more durable, easier to repair, and much more customizable. They also tend to last several years longer than regular keyboards, excellent for people who don’t plan on buying another keyboard for several years! They’re also known to be satisfying to type on, increasing productivity. Heck, some keyboards are split into two halves to improve ergonomics and relieve stress on your back and posture! I prefer combined keyboards, but it helps people who sit down most of the day and have a sore back after a long while. They are not as squishy as regular keyboards, and they are way more accurate than regular keyboards.

What Are They Like to Use?

I’ve never used one before, but many people say that they’re very satisfying to type on, as I mentioned earlier – split keyboards do exist, so people love those ones as well. I would buy one if I could, rubber membrane keyboards are so… Squishy. I would recommend mechanical keyboards to a lot of people.

What About Hardware?

On the hardware side, mechanical keyboards are usually wired, but if you want, you can get wireless ones! They aren’t too rare to find, especially nowadays.

There are all sorts of different mechanical keyboards out there, but usually, most people buy them for the clickiness of the key switches that they provide. Not all of them are clicky – some people also get them to be silent and to type and write on. 3 different types of switches are at your disposal: linear, tactile, and clicky.

Linear switches offer a quieter experience for the user, which is better for the person who doesn’t want to be hearing clickety clacking all the time. Tactile switches also don’t produce any sounds, but they have a tactile bump whenever you press a key. Better if you want the satisfaction of pressing the keys on the keyboard.

Clicky switches are practically the loudest and most satisfying experience. They click, they give tactile feedback, everything a person would want.

Are They Expensive?

Some are, some aren’t. Usually, they start at $60. If you add a lot of things to it, it may become expensive. But it’s worth the price, since what you’re getting is is incredible! I’d probably not get a lot with it, maybe just the RGB backlights, and that’s it. They’re only expensive if you make them be, essentially. So, if you can afford it, go wild! If you’re on a budget, you can still get quite a lot. So, have fun with it!

Conclusion

I want a keyboard with mechanical switches, they seem incredible! I would get clicky switches for the clickiness. Overall, I love mechanical keyboards and would like to get one eventually. I would get one with RGB backlights, they look beautiful. But, that’ll be all from me for today. I’ll see you all later!
