The iPad Pro 2nd Generation – Does It Hold Up?

iPad Pro 2nd Generation – Does It Hold Up?

As of writing this, I have inherited a 6-year-old iPad Pro from my father. Does it hold up today, and can you use it for your everyday tasks? Well, let’s see!

Compatibility

Surprisingly enough, the 2nd gen iPad Pro does support iPadOS 17, so, as far as compatibility goes, you’re good. It also has most of the features from iPadOS 17, excluding the M1 and above exclusive features such as Stage Manager.

Performance

Even though this thing is 6 years old, it runs pretty decently! The battery is great, the processor runs fine, (it being the A10X Bionic chip from 2017) and it plays games decently well. It’s like a low-end laptop. However, whenever it gets hot or runs low on battery, the inputs can drop quite frequently, making the gaming experience on it… Not so fun at times. But, it’s still good for browsing, watching YouTube videos, and doing simpler tasks like that!

How’s Its Camera?

Well, pretty good! It has a 12-megapixel main camera, and a lot of other features and good specs with it as well! You can check it out on this site where they have all of the specs for it listed.

Design

Its design is pretty dated, rocking the home button, and big bezels on the top and bottom, as well as some smaller ones on the sides. But it doesn’t matter, really. All a typical consumer would care about is if it works or not.

How Much Are New Ones?

You can’t buy them on the Apple website anymore, however; you can get them refurbished! A refurbished iPad Pro 2nd Generation is very cheap, around the $300-$500 range. I think it’d be worth the buy!

Conclusion

Well, in conclusion; the iPad Pro 2nd Generation is still a very valid machine to be using nowadays, even with it’s age. If you took good care of it over a 6 year span, it’ll still be very powerful now! So, make sure to take care of older devices – and you won’t have to get a new one. I think mine is very nice and I basically use it as a daily driver for mobile now, alongside my phone. But anywho, I hope you enjoyed todays post, and I’ll see you all next week!
